Planning your next school ski excursion but can't decide when to travel? With the Australian and New Zealand ski season falling perfectly over both the June-July and the September school holidays, there has never been more options and availability for Australian school groups. The big question is, when is the best time to ski? The answer does depend on your schools' needs, so we are here to help you decide which option is the most suitable for your next school ski adventure.
Skiing in the June and July School Holidays A ski trip in June or July is a great break through the academic year for Australian school students to look forward to.
Although more expensive lift passes and accommodation rates, you get what you pay for with unbeatable snow conditions. July is considered peak season at many resorts, and the closer to the middle of winter you travel, the more likely you are of having good snowfall and a good base of snow already settled.
During the winter school holidays, QLD school groups have 2 weeks to choose from, they can travel either the late June week or early July week. Being able to send school groups spread over multiple weeks means there is more availability with your groups #1 preferences in flight pricing and accommodation.
Skiing in the September School Holidays
Yes - the snow still falls in September! But not to worry if the downfall is limited, the resorts have snow machines to cater for all skiers and snowboarders.
September ski offers quieter slopes allowing school groups more space to find their feet! Although there are fewer independent travelers, September is the most popular season for school groups, so you won't be alone.
Price also plays a big factor in why schools choose to book a spring ski holiday. Ski resorts often offer cheaper lift passes for school groups that travel in September over the June-July school holidays. Accommodation options also tend to be more competitively priced during shoulder season.
If you have never run a ski trip at your school before and want to get your school group to the snow, we highly recommend September travel for competitive pricing and short lift lines.
Sno'n'Ski Group Holidays plan and organise school group ski packages up to 18 months in advance to guarantee the most competitive price for your school group. Booking early ensures your first preferences are held. Consider when the school would be required to start promoting and collecting deposits for the ski trip based on which month you travel. If the school are looking at a June-July group ski package, you would need to start collecting deposits to secure airfares and accommodation in Term 2 or early Term 3. September ski packages require initial deposits in Term 3 or early Term 4. We can of course organise last minute snow excursions, but this is dependent on availability and pricing at that stage.
